A Christian Parent’s Prayer
Heavenly Father,
I come before you humbled, acknowledging that parenting isn’t about me, but about you. You’re in charge, Lord. Help me surrender my desires, ambitions, and control, so that I may raise my children in line with your plans and purposes. I confess my inadequacies and embrace your call to parent in a way that magnifies your glory.
Father, help me relate to Jesus in the right way. Empower me by your Spirit to be an ambassador of your character in my home—kind, patient, faithful, forgiving, and full of grace. May what I say and do reflect you to my children. Let me be the touch of Jesus’ hand, the sound of His voice, the warmth of His love.
Lord, I admit I’m powerless. I can’t change hearts. Only you can awaken faith in my children. Don’t let me strive in my strength, but draw on your grace. When I fall short, discipline in anger, or forget your Word, grant me mercy and renew my heart.
Thank you for the sufficiency of your grace in every parenting moment. As I receive your undeserved favour, teach me to give it freely – to forgive, be patient, nurture tender hearts, and correct with compassion. Change me, O God, through the very children you’ve given me. Use them to realign my heart with yours.
Remind me, Lord, to take the long view. Parenting is a daily surrender, a lifetime of faithfulness. Give me the strength to lay down my life for my children, just as Christ laid down His for me.
I cling to your promises: that you’re with me (Matthew 28:20), that your Spirit gives power, love, and self-discipline (2 Timothy 1:7), and that your grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9). Let my home be filled with your Word, my heart with prayer, and my life with grace.
Help me parent wisely, teach truth, extend forgiveness, and reflect Jesus in every interaction. May my children come to know and serve you (Joshua 24:15). With your provision, help my family live for and love you.

Wooow the prayer is loaded and yet concise and uplifting. Acknowledging that we can’t do it by ourselves and asking Him to take charge and lead us on , does it all for me. Thank you Dr. Murray!
